Massage Etiquette

Massage Etiquette

Getting a massage is a relaxing and energizing experience that can make you feel at ease. However, getting a professional massage requires you to know a few basics regardless of whether your massage providers are from Manchester or not. Once you know the basic massage etiquette, you will be able to enjoy your spa day without a worry.

Mobile Phones

Everyone seems to own a mobile phone these days and most people take their phones with them everywhere they go. When getting a massage, it’s important to leave your phone behind or at least put it on silent. Many massage providers give you the ability to store items in lockers. If the spa you’re going to has lockers, leave your  phone in the locker. If you absolutely must bring your  phone with you during your massage, make sure to turn it off or place it on silent. Massage providers don’t enjoy being interrupted in the middle of a massage because you take a call or feel like texting your friends.

Shower Before the Spa Day

Many people believe that showering before a massage is not important, but it really is. Massage providers from Manchester and from everywhere else don’t enjoy massaging people who haven’t showered first. You don’t need to spray your most expensive perfume all over, but arriving at the spa clean is a basic massage etiquette that too many people forget to follow.

Talking

One of the biggest questions on everybody’s mind when getting a massage is whether or not they should talk with the therapist. Talking is not banned, but keeping a lower tone of voice is preferable. If you’re alone in the room with the therapist, you can definitely talk to them. However, if the room has other people getting a massage at the same time, it’s better to remain quiet. Some massage providers prefer being quiet while giving a massage, so if you talk and they don’t respond, stop talking and enjoy the moment.

Tipping the Massage Providers

In many countries tipping is expected but here in England things are a little different, although giving a tip is not an obligation, it’s definitely something you may want to consider. Unless the service was terrible, you could perhaps tip the massage providers roughly 10%-15%. Some spas in Manchester may include a tip in the price of the service, so if you’re unsure, you should ask the receptionist whether or not tips are already added. Keep in mind that when the tips are already added to the bill, the massage therapists only get a fraction of that. If you really loved your massage, you should probably tip the massage providers directly.

No Sexual Demands

Many first-timers get the wrong impression about massage providers. Getting a massage does not include sexual favours. Asking for sexual favours should be avoided at all costs because it’s insulting towards the therapist. Act professionally and save yourself the embarrassment.
